What is the value of the y variable in the solution to the following system of equations? 5x + 3y = 7 3x - 5y = -23

The first thing you want to do is multiply the two equations so the coefficient of y are the same. I like to eliminate variable when working with system of equations. but you can also do it a different way.

So if you multiply the top equation by 5 and the bottom equation by 3, you should get this:

\[25x +15y=7\] \[9x-15y=-69\]

Do you know how to do the rest?
