The soultion set of |x-3| > 5 is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[|x-3|>5\implies x-3>5 \text{ or } x-3<-5\] solve separately

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x-3>5\iff x>8\] \[x-3<-5\iff x<-2\] solution is \[x<-2\text{ or } x >8\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

@satellite Do you remember the 70% ---210 problem from yesterday?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did this help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you want intervals it is \[(-\infty, -2) \cup (8,\infty)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mertsj yes i remember it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nah its ok. Thanks though!

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Later she posted it was supposed to be 70% of 210 not 70% or 210. So we gave her the wrong answer. Should have been 147 not 300.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

increased by 70% OR 210, which i took to mean that 210 was 70% of some number, and that number would be 300

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"of" , "or" one letter makes all the difference!

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Yep. I tried and tried to get her to post it correctly.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

ty, satellite
