what effect did the ban on oil shipments on the US by the Middle Eastern countries have on the United States?
Maybe our gas prices went up but the fact is that we the "US" have enough oil! There is a massive 200 billion barrel oil field located in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. And it even gets better! Because of new horizontal drilling technology we the "US" invented, it is estimated that this huge field may even produce up to 500 billion barrels of oil! The Saudi’s are estimated to have only 260 billion barrels of oil, clearly putting America in the cat bird seat! Wait it gets better Alaska has as many also Kansas, Oklahoma and off the Gulf by Louisiana. The US Outer Continental Shelf has 112 billion barrels of oil, not to mention a whopping 656 TRILLION cubic feet of natural gas! Oil shale is abundant in the US. In fact, half of all the earth’s oil shale deposits are located within 150 miles of Grand Junction, Colorado! Shell Oil is working on new technology which will make oil shale extraction financially feasible. They opened a shale oil plant in 2010. It will provide a piece of the puzzle toward energy independence for the United States. Then of course, just about everyone knows that the United States is the Saudi Arabia of coal. With 275 billon tons of coal! We have more coal than just about any other place in the world. Enough coal for American needs for the next 250 years! Once again, new technology is underway to make coal burning safe for our environment. The U.S. will be fine we don't need the middle east or anyone we have our own!
A grand answer, but incomplete. The oil price increased caused the prices of ALL goods to increase, because oil is not only used to make some products [Plastics for example], but used to transport these things from produce to supplier. The other problem with your answer is that environmentalists would prefer you not drill in the mating area of the endangered white breasted swallow, and that John Jackson whose land is sitting on an oil area is not gonna sell his land, and that environmentalists would rather not you use coal for power plants since it tends to cause a huge amount of CO2 to be released into the air.
