How did political parties contribute to national unity?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What time period? in the industrial age (early 20th century) one of the greatest cartoonist of the time helped to bring down one of the biggest political machines ever (Thomas Nast was the cartoonist, and Boss Tweed was the corrupt ring leader.) Boss Tweed would help immigrants get a job and a place to stay when coming into ellis island and instead of letting the people decide, Boss tweed would give a card with his name checked off, and tell them that if they want to keep these benfits that they would turn that when the elections came around. (Boss Tweed's benefits was a lot of money)

in any country, political parties have done nothing but ununify countries because of there "party based politics" they do what is right for the party and not the country which results in different factions always arguing over the same matters. Political parties are the worst thing to happen to politics.
