A transverse wave is found to have a distance of 4cm from a trough to a crest, a frequency of 12Hz, and a distance of 5cm from crest to the nearest trough. Determine the amplitude, period, wavelength and speed of such wave.

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Wavelength is the distance trough to trough, or crest to crest. Hence 4cm is half a wavelength. What's the relationship between frequency and period? Use that and the frequency of 12Hz to find the period. What is amplitude (the attached diagram will help you)? Use the definition of it and "['vertical'] distance of 5cm from crest to the nearest trough"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question seems ambiguos how can distance from one crest to trough be both 4 and 5?
