How are 3D movies made, projected and viewed, using the method of polarization?
The picture on the screen are actually 2 pictures projected by 2 different projectors, where each one is intended for 1 eye, this makes the illusion of the 3D picture. Each picture is polarized, one is vertical and the other is horizontal. The glasses are also polarized, each lens in a different direction (one vertical, other horizontal). Vertically polarized lens allows only the vertically polarized picture to pass though, and the same is with the horizontally polarized lens.
For the left eye, the idea is to filter out the picture intended for the right eye and only let the picture for the left eye through and vice versa Also, there are different kinds of polarizations, like colors or circular polarization and only one projector could be used.
As an aside: Modern 3D movies use circular polarization. This eliminates many issues that can arrise if the viewer tilts his head off of the polarization axis.
Thank you guys! :)
