OpenStudy (turingtest):

Can anyone give me an example of an endomorphism of a vector space?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this calculus?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

Linear algebra in this case, but there seem to be other kinds of endomorphisms. I probably should have been more specific.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, whats the difference between linear and regular algebra?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

A lot, it's pretty hard to explain. Linear algebra has to do with vectors, matrices, things like that. You probably don't know those terms though, but you will meet them soon enough.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this one maps to itself. L:V->V

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I know that, I wanted an example of one that is actually used specifically.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, say V is in R3. Let L be a 3x3 matrix and L takes V into V

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for R2 the matrix | cos x -sin x | | sin x cos x| rotates a vector in R@2

OpenStudy (turingtest):

Thanks
