what is use of supercomputer in mapping the human genome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because huge amount of data is needed to be stored, processed and manipulated. Try this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Genome_Project

As far as i know - The whole "mapping" means finding correlation ( e.g statistical correlation) between the genome and known physical phenomena like some disease or "color of the eyes". That requires a lot of number crunching.

Genome annotation. It is much faster and less error prone to do this in a computer rather than by hand, and a supercomputer does it faster than a normal computer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genome_annotation
