Help with physics essay topic:

I have to write an essay in physics, but I'm stuck at the topic. Have no idea about it.
So the whole study is called somewhat: "Study about physical measurements and methods"
Some of the example topics, that professor gave us were:
- Low temperatures (I guess - how we can gain them and measure)
- Newest development in elementary particle physics.
- Newest development in optics ; cosmology ; material science.


SO ANY IDEAS ON INTERESTING TOPICS?

(the essay won't be too long, so no deep and serious physics)

I was thinking more about ideas for topics. Not for the ones I mentioned as example, but what would be a good and interesting topic, which would be in a way similar to the ones I mentioned.

2. Cavendish experiment (call it "Weighing The Earth")

I would choose something like that because everyone will go for the obvious ones, quantum theory and such :D

For low temperatures- superconductors. I think there is/was research going on because of new uncertainties about the origin of their electric fields due to the discovery of high-temperature superconductors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BCS_theory
