A trapezoid is drawn on a grid with vertices at P (-5, 7), Q (-2, 7), R (2, 3), and S (-8, 3). Trapezoid UVWX will be drawn similar to Trapezoid PQRS with side UV corresponding to side PQ. The point (2, -2) will be the location of vertex U and point (8, -2) will be the location of point V. What will be the coordinates of vertex X? Show all your work or explain your reasoning.

please help

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if its similar then it differs by some scalar what is the distance from P to Q?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P to Q is 3 units

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what is the distance fron U to V then to compare with ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

X will be similarly positioned to S at the same offsets. So, you need to calculate the offset from P to S (y and x) and add that to U to get the coordinates of X.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u to v is 6 units

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good, since our original is 3 units; and our new one is 6 units; this tells us that each side of the new trap is bigger by a factor of 2. 3 times 2 = 6 i would grow the old one by a factor of 2 then move it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

all the linear aspects are bigger by a factor of 2; up and down, left and right; criss and cross
