An equation for estimating the speed of a tsunami is http://ncvps.blackboard.com/courses/1/Algebra1Sec05Fall11/ppg/respondus/exam_Quadratics_HW9/3331.gif where d is the depth of the ocean in meters and s is the speed in meters per second. Find the depth of the ocean when the speed of the tsunami is 250 meters per second. Estimate to the nearest tenth.

Dang . :( well how would i write it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Depends on the formula.. you could use the equation editor below.

\[s=3.1\sqrt{d}\]

Rearrange: \[d = \left(\frac{s}{3.1}\right)^2\]And substitute:\[d = \left(\frac{250}{3.1}\right)^2 = 6503.64..m \approx 6503.6m\]
