Solve the absolute value inequality: |x - 6| > 2 x > 4 or x < 8 x < 4 or x > 8 x < 4 and x > 8 x > 4 and x < 8 Solve the absolute value inequality: |2x - 3| < 5 x > -1 and x < 4 x > -4 and x < 4 x < -1 or x > 4 x < -1 and x > 4
First, let me as you: what's the solution of |x| > 2 ?
I don't know.
What are the solutions of |x| = 2 ?
I don't know anything of this and i'm in a hurry right now, James. I already asked people to explain how to do this and no one has helped me at all... So, I really am running out of time right now, James.
You've been asking questions about the absolute value, |x|, for a couple of weeks now. I remember helping you earlier. You need to go and learn the definition of |x| and then work some problems. If I were you, I would do any of the following - talk to your teacher - review your notes from class - open up your text book - work some problems from the Khan Academy, starting here, http://www.khanacademy.org/video/absolute-value-1?playlist=Algebra+I+Worked+Examples
Alright, I don't have a text book, my teacher is occupied, I don't have notes and i'm sure as hell I don't have time to work on some problems. I have 6 modules to finish BEFORE THE 15TH of this month. I don't know if you understand my pressure or not, but I REALLY don't have time for that.
If you really don't have the time to learn the material, then you will fail it. If you have left it to the last minute, then that is your problem, not mine, nor anyone else's on OpenStudy. Either learn the material properly, or don't. It's up to you.
I didn't leave it for the last minute, I have been asking for constant help and you said it yourself you've seen me asking for help on this equation.
Obviously, you are incapable of helping me. Yet, seeing every time that I post this you send me to the same page. If you can not give me the answer to two questions and yet give everyone the answer. Then please ignore MY POSTS. Because, obviously you are incapable of helping me without directing me to someone else. I only need help with this, yet you can't even do that. SO, go bite yourself and DON'T KEEP POSTING that useless page on my questions. Okay? Khan-Academy can kiss my retrice I don't have time for videos. I'm very stressed right now. SO, go run along and do whatever you like just don't bother me continuously with that page instead of helping me.
In mathematics, the absolute value |a| of a real number a is the numerical value of a without regard to its sign. So, for example, the absolute value of 3 is 3, and the absolute value of -3 is also 3
Yeah, I already know that.
I just don't know how to solve the equation.
I was trying to help you by taking two steps backward, which finally got us to the question: what are the solutions of |x| = 2? But the fact you could not answer that question means you actually don't understand the definition of absolute value, even though a few of us helped you with this 15 days ago. Here's me helping you: http://openstudy.com/users/thehero#/updates/4ef2680fe4b0dc507db6d7b1 Here's Slaaibak helping you: http://openstudy.com/users/thehero#/updates/4ef3b2e5e4b0dc507db7498e Notice that after some time, Slaaibak came to the same conclusion I did: namely, you need to learn the basic materials. Your reply to him was "they don't teach us". If that is true, you need to learn them somewhere. If you don't have a text book, or access to a teacher, and you refuse to watch what everyone else thinks of as good teaching videos, how is it that you expect to learn the basics? I strongly recommend you actually try the Khan Academy materials. Or even better, buy a text book! They are remarkably useful! Most of us here have used them for years and years, and that's how we learnt a large amount of the mathematics we know. In the mean time, I shall take your advice and not trouble myself with trying to help you in the future.
