The 3rd floor of a house is 8 m above street level. How much work is needed to move a 150 kg refrigerator to the 3rd floor?

OpenStudy (underhill):

Work = Force * Displacement let the up direction be positive y... Work = 150kg(10m/s^2) * 8m Work = 12,000 J

Okay, Thank you ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

work is done by us against gravity

OpenStudy (underhill):

Salini, that's not necessarily true. If you are in space, and move an object in a direction, you have done work. The force in this example came from the acceleration you gave the object, not gravity.
