Is anyone savvy with computers? I have reinstalled my Windows XP Pro and I need to update the drivers on it, but I have had trouble in reinstalling the Ethernet Driver, I have asked Dell to help me but they said that my computer is out of warenty therefore I can't get ant support. Hope this makes sense!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dell customer service sucks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it does, I about cussed him out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you should have a Service Tag number , find it and enter it here http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have done all the steps... I have even downloaded it on a USB...!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then I think you just double click it,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

double click what you just downloaded

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have downloaded the Ethernet Port Drive...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have saved it on my flashdrive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My advice, install bunch of driver you see there;once you hit the right one, it should start workin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I have put it my other computer and I dont know where to go from there.

hero (hero):

Don't ever buy another dell computer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am learning that! I have one from 2003

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have reinstalled it, and I can't get the drivers in!

hero (hero):

If I had your computer, you'd be connected to the net in no time flat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah well What the Helllll am I supposed to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have finally found the right driver for the graphics!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But I need help in the setup of placing the driver for the ethernet or what ever you call it!

hero (hero):

You have to install the drivers manually. Download the drivers from dell's website. They should all be there. Use a flash drive to do it. Once you've done that, make sure you install the drivers and check device manager to make sure the device is working properly. Then make sure your internet connections are properly configured. If your computer has a direct internet connection, make sure you set your settings to automatically detect internet connection. You may have to reset your internet protocol configuration settings or input them manually to get things to work properly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you like walk me through?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have been doing this since yesturday afternoon!

hero (hero):

Find the exact name, model, and manufacturer of the device and look it up on google, someone should have it somewhere. If I were you, the first thing I would do is go to dell's site and look for your exact computer make and model. If you locate that, dell should have all of the related drivers for your model. The only exception I can see to that is if you bought your ethernet hardware at a store and installed it manually. Then you'd have to search for that specific driver software elsewhere.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean? I have a Netgear router.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And where do I get the Driver manager?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have the Optiplex GX260 and the Service Tag 1ZGHM11

hero (hero):

If you have windows xp go to start, my computer, right click, properties

hero (hero):

You should be able to see device manager

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was suppoed top click on that and then right click the network adaptorsq

hero (hero):

If you haven't installed the driver yet, doing this is pointless

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And then click properties wich will lead me to Drivers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then I was supposed to Click update drivers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean? Then How do you install the driver

hero (hero):

I told you how to install the driver. In device manager, if it recognizes your device, you should be able to get the exact manufacturer name for the device. You'll have to use that exact name of the device to search the internet for its driver. That's pretty much the only way to do it if dell's site doesn't have it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I have to look up the Netgear adaptor?

hero (hero):

If that's what you have for your ethernet, then yes. Is it internally or externally connected? If it's externally connected, you need to find either the cd or the installation software online.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I find the application online if I don't have the CD for it?

hero (hero):

There are ways of finding it. Tell me the name, model, and manufacturer of your ethernet device. I'll look it up myself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry for the wait! Wireless N 300 Router WNRB2000 v2 Is that what you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Once I get the internet on I will let you help me remotely. If that is OK

hero (hero):

Go to start, control panel, network connections. Let me know if you have a local area connection. In the mean time I'll look for your drivers.

hero (hero):

You're inside the US, correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry I had to clean the garage! And yes I am in the US!`

hero (hero):

Okay, well, there you go. Download link above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK I do not have a local area connection,. So what you are saying is that I need to download it on a flashdrive and then put the program on the other computer?

hero (hero):

Yes. Try it and see what happens. But I worry about what will happen if you don't have an LAC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When I tried to download it it asked me with what program I wanted to open it with

hero (hero):

But nevermind. If you don't have anything currently connected, you won't have one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What the hell is an LAC

hero (hero):

Hmmm. That's strange.

hero (hero):

Local Area Connection

OpenStudy (anonymous):

still no solution; suggest out-the-window solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh can you just call me? My number is 515-428-0418, If you want you can use Google tyo call, and it is free

hero (hero):

I have google voice already :P

hero (hero):

I have to go somewhere, but I'll be back later. Probably tomorrow

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok sounds good!
