If "v" be the velocity of of a fluid at any point, then, "div v" at that point gives the rate of fluid flow at that point. -If at a point, "div v" > 0, the fluid shows expansion or the point is the source of the fluid. -If at a point, "div v" <0, the fluid shows contraction or it is the sink vector. -If "div v" = 0, the point is known as Solenoidal point, i.e. the fluid shows no change in volume.
