Why is electric current moving in the opposite direction to the electrons?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

electricity has been gone and the hole stands still, that is why they move in the opposite way

OpenStudy (ash2326):

It's just a convention. Current is in the same direction as that of the flow of positive charges. So electrons move in the opposite direction of current. This is the just a convention. We can work with the opposite also, But it a worldwide accepted convention.
