OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that if u have to much pride it could make u seem cocky, or it could make u seem like ur better then everyone. it could make u fail at something

Good Good Good. Pride is an emotion. Pride can also build confidence and help one to do better at their job. Pride can have a positive affect or negative ones Also, where does the origin of the word pride come from Also, everything I just said I got from you. I got you to write something about it because that is what you call brainstorming. After you brainstorm on the topic, you start to piece it all together to create a thesis and an essay. From what I said, which came from your brainstorm, we can write three/ four thesis statements. One thesis can be on the emotion of pride and how it alters other emotions. The second one can be on the positive affects of pride and the third one can be on the negative affect of pride and our forth one can be on the origin of the word pride. Here we have our three or even four thesis statements. Emotion, Positive affects, Negative affects and origin of the word .Now brainstorm about the emotion of pride. Write everything you can think about it or search about it and put it under Emotion. After you have done that, do the same with Positive affects. Negative affect and search for the origin of the word pride and put them in their category. You just need three things for each really. I will give the emotion thesis (Thesis) Although there are many emotions, individual pride can alter the emotion love, hate and fear. That is the thesis up above and from there you would write your essay and talk about how it can alter love, hate and fear. Can you try and come up with the other two thesis? Post them here so we can see and help you alter them if we have to

This is how I come up with thesis statements: First form an opinion on the topic. Write down one sentence that states this opinion. Next either through research or knowledge write down the strongest reason supporting your opinion. Then write down the second strongest reason supporting your opinion. Finally, write down the main argument against your opinion. With these three statements you can form a variety of thesis statements in various forms. Even though, (argument against), (opinion) because (reason one) and (reason two). OR (Opinion) because (reason one or two). OR While (argument against), (strongest reason). ETC. So using your topic and just some made up reasons you might come up with something like: Opinion: Pride is hurtful. Reason 1: The bible says it is. Reason 2: Pride leads to selfishness. Argument against: Pride can improve ones self esteem. Thesis: Even though pride can improve one's self esteem, pride is hurtful because the bible says it is and pride leads to selfishness. Don't be afraid to tweak your statement or statements. Also don't be afraid to change your opinion. I have started a thesis on more than one occasion only to find my opinion changed during the formulation of my thesis statement. Don't let your opinion get you stuck in a rut.
