Please help!! Jermaine had dinner at his favorite restaurant. If the sales tax rate is 5% and the sales tax on the meal came to $2.00, what was the total cost of the meal, including sales tax and a 15% tip A.$52.50 B.$40.00 C.$48.00 D.57.00

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sales tax is 5% means $2 is 5% of the pre-tax bill so you need to figure out what 2 is five percent of i.e. solve \[.05x=2\] \[x=2\div.05=200\div 5=40\]

where you get 2 dollars

so the meal cost $40 and if this cheapskate tipped only 15% on the pre-tax bill his tip was \[.15\times 40=6\] and so the total came to \[40+6+2=48\]
