plese help! a cube has one side of 24. how many cubes with a one side of 4 can you fit into the big cube?

PLEEEEEESE HELP ME!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A cube is equal all ways around, so basically for any one side, you need to find how many small cubes fit that side, then cube that amount. So first, how many 4s fit into 24?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6. easy. you know iunderstand algbrea, but not this...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then if 6 cubes fit across, 6 cubes fit tall, and 6 cubes fit deep, what's 6 times 6 times 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The number of cubes in the largest is 24x24x24 or 13824. The number of cubes in the smaller is 4x4x4 or 64. 13824/64 = 216.

THANK YOU!!!!

acmartin, that's only true if you're dividing it all by small 1 unit cubes. In some cases, that amount won't necessarily be true because the smaller cubes won't be evenly divisible into the large area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, here it works.

Even if it didn't divide evenly the answer would still be the answer. Because the sides of the larger cube are evenly divisible by the sides of the smaller cube you know the answer will be a whole number, otherwise it would be a fractional part.
