OpenStudy (anonymous):

segment MN has midpoint P if M has coordinates(14,-3) and P has coordinates (1,4) what are thecoordinates of N?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, well, we need to calculate the slope and the distance. First, what's the slope?

OpenStudy (stacey):

I would use the midpoint formula \[( (x _{1}+x _{2})/2, (y _{1}+y _{2})/2 )\]

OpenStudy (stacey):

So to find the x coordinate of N \[(14+x _{2})/2=1\]

OpenStudy (stacey):

\[14+x _{2}=2\] \[x _{2}=-12\]
