1) What does temperature measure? How is temperature measured? What’s the relationship between the temperature of a gas and the speed of its molecules?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Temperature measures internal energy of matter. Temperature is measured with a thermometer most commonly (N.B.: Several other devices exist, but the thermometer is the most common.) There exists a direct relationship between temperature and the mean speed of gas molecules. That is to say, that as temperature increases, so does the speed of gas molecules.
