is this correct? atomic orbital configuration displays four shapes: sphere, donut, flower, and dumbbell.
I don't think that is correct
hmm alright, what is it then? im lost lol
Here is a link that should help you out faster than it would take me to help. http://intro.chem.okstate.edu/1314f00/lecture/chapter10/vsepr.html If this isn't what you are looking for let me know and i will see if we can figure it out
I think you might want to read this, down in the "Shapes of Orbitals" section: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_orbital It appears your first assumption was right. I don't see any other basic configurations for the electron orbitals besides the ones you mentioned...sphere, torus (donut), ellipsoids (dumbell), and flower (multiple ellipsoids), but I can't find a source that refers to these exactly by name. (In other words, I think zbay misunderstood your question, and directed you to a page on molecular geometries)
Sorry i have never heard them refered to as that, I have only used terms like py pz px orbitals. I like that though i'm going to start calling them donuts....mmmmmm donuts....
yeah its correct |dw:1326294274084:dw|
