How do I simplify this (x^-7) (y^5)/(x^6)(y^6) I think you subtract, but am not 100%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah if it's division you subtract powers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am got 0/xy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I forgot about the 1. Haha, thanks

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i just subtract the bottom exponents from the top and sort out the negatives afterwards

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is \[1divx ^{13}y\] and I don't know why

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[ x^{-7-6} y^{5-6}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*face palm* just figured it out. Going back to school is hard.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know why but i saw x^-6 in denominator at the beginning lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry for this
