if a figure has 9 sides how many vertices and edges does it have

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

In general, if a figure has n sides, then it has n vertices and n edges. So if a figure has 9 sides, then it has 9 vertices and 9 edges.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it the same if the figure is a solid figure like a block type of figure i cant really explain it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

For 3D figures, it's a bit different, but they can be found using the formula V - E + F = 2 where V = number of vertices, E = number of edges, and F = number of faces This of course only applies to polyhedra.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but on the page i am doin it doesnt show the fu=igure it just asks ''if the 2 bases have 9 sides how many vertices and edges does it have''

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hmm not sure, one sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

does it refer to any other page or figure at all? how do you know it's referring to a solid figure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its meaning a solid figure cause thats what the hwole lesson is about

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ah ok that makes sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would you perhaps be able to answer that for me?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

are these two figures touching or adjacent at all? does it say?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

my guess is that somehow there's more info being referenced thats missing somehow

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not forsure i will get the oage and copy the problem

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

alright, sounds good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

april made a model of a prism whose bases have 9 sides each. How many vertices and how many edges did her model have?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ah a prism...thanks There are 9 edges per base, so there are 2*9 = 18 edges Add in the 9 lateral edges to get 18+9 = 27 edges total ------------------------------------------------ There are 9 vertices per base as well, so there are 2*9 = 18 vertices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you soooooo much!!! i ahve such a hard time with math and now it just got a whole lot easyierrrr

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

np, glad to be of help
