Which of these statements best explains why space exploration should be encouraged? It helps dispel myths about objects in space. It creates technology to absorb harmful radiations in space. It prepares humans to live without oxygen. It prevents comets and asteroids from striking Earth.

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Which do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its the 1st one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Really this question seems more like for an opinion

OpenStudy (jamesj):

None of the options are great; "without oxygen" is the most absurd. The first one I think is fine.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I vote for the last. There is some evidence for massive extinctions caused by asteroid or comet impacts in the past, and if even a small asteroid or comet were to hit -- and this is much more probable than a large one hitting -- it would wreak extreme havoc on civilization. If we are to have any hope of deflecting such an impact before it happens, we need to be seasoned space travelers. Even if we just want to be able to detect the event far enough in advance to be able to evacuate and prepare, we probably need to be observing in space.

OpenStudy (jamesj):

That's sound reasoning.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

i like the second one best
