Why did Pasteur's work lead to a change in modern cell theory?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. He created great controversy among scientists, and to settle the dispute, cell theory was adjusted to include both spontaneous generation and the idea that cells come from pre-existing cells. b. He showed that the broth was composed of microorganisms which needed air, showing that cells need oxygen for cellular respiration. c. His work, which was documented and repeatable, contradicted the accepted cell theory, so a change in the theory was required. d. His reputation as a great scientist convinced other scientists to accept his work and change cell theory.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its c, but im not sure, what about u?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you're right. I'd go with C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank u, if you can, can u help me with the one before this question also?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i dont know about this one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he supported Virshow's statement to contradict spontaneous generation, so is that still c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. He created great controversy among scientists, and to settle the dispute, cell theory was adjusted to include both spontaneous generation and the idea that cells come from pre-existing cells.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I still think its c, i mean he didnt create it he supported it by an experiment and it help the statement that cells come from other cells Am i right or wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If I remember correctly, both Virchow and Pasteur challenged the idea of spontaneous generation. But Pasteur's experiments were conclusive in rejecting spontaneous generation. He definitely did create controversy, but I guess as the scientific community slowly changed, there would have been both ideas present. I can see A as a valid answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But I still think C is the best, as his experiments were documented and repeatable, and the theory of spontaneous generation had to be changed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he supported that cells come from other cells and contradicted the spontaneous generation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats what I'd answer!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks BTW i still need help with the question before this one, that says "If slight differences in the structure of a...,."
