What is the third term in the binomial expansion (x – y^5 )^3? Please explain how to solve a problem like this. Thank you.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You could actually cube the binomial or you could use Pascal's triangle to get the coefficients or you could use the binomial theorem. Which of those do you know how to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Both, but cube of a binomial is more understandable to me.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So square it first and then multiply that answer by x-y^5 again.
