Available in this case means that it can access it at any time, so when its dark trees can still survive, it does this by consuming the starch and cellulose it saved up from photosynthesis.

woah woah woah? how is it elm tree? the trees are plants which get sunlight. it has to be insect. plus 'elm tree' is not in one of my choices so its clearly wrong. i go for insect. it's the only one that makes sense.
