Using the map and your knowledge of U.S. expansion in the 1800s, what can you infer about why the British wanted to keep territory in Maine?

The British also had a claim to New Brunswick in those days.

Or perhaps they just wanted to hang on to this hinterland of slush, sleet, freezing rain, moose, Subaru drivers and unemployed people on general principle.

I'm from Maine (and I went to school in New Brunswick) so I'm allowed to joke about it.
