What is the relationship between the “root”, an “x-intercept”, and the “solution” of a polynomial function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are synonyms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's the only relationship?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe i was not clear. when i say "they are synonyms" i mean they are the same thing. so the relationship is as strong as it can be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if \[p(x)\] is a polynomial, saying that r is a root is identical to saying \[p(r)=0\] is the same as saying \[(r,0)\] is on the graph

Oh makes sense now! thanks
