Does anyone here takes Combinatorics?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

not yet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

is it good/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can u suggest me a good book?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's one of my favorite.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Undergrad or grad?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am a high school student.I have gone through the first part of Schaums but I need a book much more focused on problem solving.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My personal favorites are the following: 1. Introduction to Combinatorial analysis --- Riordan 2. Concrete Mathematics --- Graham, Knuth, Patashnik 3. Enumerative Combinatorics --- Richard Stanley If you have leaning towards computer science then I would strongly recommend #2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are two volumes for #3.Where can I get a combined edition?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

#3 is not always introductory but if you really like counting it's a must have. I have only read Vol 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can u tell me the name of the publisher?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you. But the price is in dollars and I stay in India :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am an Indian too. This is the flipkart's url: http://www.flipkart.com/books/1107602629

What about Richard Brauldi : Introductory Combinatorics ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I actually want something of olympiad standard.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you want a really good combinatorial text, especially one that might prepare you for olympiads, I would definitely suggest Combinatorial Problems and Exercises by Lovasz. It is a famous Hungarian text (most Hungarians who pursue a PhD will spend about a year solving every problem in the text cover to cover at some point in their studies) and is undoubtedly very difficult. It also goes quite a bit beyond what olympiads test, so there will be problems you cannot solve, but what you can solve will very much enhance your understanding of combinatorics (at both an olympiad level and academic level).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does it have any Indian pubnlisher?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Possibly, it is used worldwide, so it wouldn't surprise me. I've loaned my copy to a friend, otherwise I would check for you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just checked on Flipkart....they only have an imported edition
