Compare and contrast the structure and function of a compound light microscope and a dissecting microscope. Be sure to discuss when each would be more useful than the other.

This gives a reasonably good description: http://www.southwestschools.org/juniorschool/jsfaculty/Microscopes/types.html Basically you would use a dissection microscope to view 3d objects (Eg. a spider) and you would use the compound to view slides with have a slice of an object (2d) (eg. a cross section of a flower). Compound microscopes also have greater magnification.
