I strongly recommend LTS releases but until 12.04 releases, you will not be able to experience the new user interface (known as Unity) on a highly stable environment. LTS stands for long term support officially but unofficially "stable" means beta and "stable LTS" means stable in the Ubuntu world. Ubuntu LTS releases every two years. Regular Ubuntu every 6 months.
OpenStudy (s3a):
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS will be released in April.
