Is 8 a solution of x < -1 or x > 7? A. yes B. no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b

OpenStudy (radar):

Change my mind, 8 is a solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is a solution?

OpenStudy (radar):

8 is larger than 7 thus meets the criteria it is thusly a solution

OpenStudy (radar):

Yes, only one of the or inputs is needed to be true.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes since it says or

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well x<-1 describes a region of the number line and means that x can be in that region. The region described by x<-1 is all numbers less than -1. So x may be any number less than -1. Similarly, x>7 describes a region in which x may lie. Your problem concerns itelf with BOTH these regions, and to get the answer of b) NO, you would need to have a number in the region between -1 and 7 inclusive. This i snot the case for 8, since 8>7. Satisfying one of your inequality constraints is sufficient.

the answer is obviously yes
