Wouldn't it be cool to have a Private Messaging facility so that we could ask questions and interact better with particular people?
It would really facilitate in clearing doubts if the person isn't online and the time zones don't match.

Unfortunately private chat is not an option as there are many younger people on this website - we want to make sure there are no avenues for bullying or worse predatory behavior therefore all activity on OpenStudy is public.

Oh..yes..I haven't thought of it that way.
But yes, it could be some sort of monitored messaging system by moderators.
But that again wouldn't serve the cause of private messaging I suppose.

Well there is always "fan messages" which are viewable just not as "openly" seen as chat or questions. Yeah, pretty much :)

TranceNova makes an excellent point, and indeed that's been our standing policy for a while. That said, keep a look out over the next few weeks. We're working on some stuff in this area.
