Stride rate (number of steps per second) is important to the serious runner. Stride rate is closely related to speed, and a runner's goal is to achieve the optimal stride rate. As part of a study, researchers measured the stride rate at seven different speeds for 21 top female runners. The average stride rates for these women and the test speeds are listed in the accompanying table. Speed, x (ft/sec) 15.85 16.73 17.46 18.44 19.87 21.17 21.98 Stride Rate, y 3.1 3.2 3.27 3.32 3.43 3.51 3.62 Find the equation of the line of best fit. (Give your answers correct to three decimal
c) Find the equation of the line of best fit. (Give your answers correct to three decimal places.) y = ______ +_______ x help fill in the blanks. i am lost
Did you plot the points?
i keep getting confused when i try
Perhaps if you would just remove the decimal points and plot those numbers that would help you
Make the y values 3.10 3.20 3.27... 310 320 327
the x values are all give in hundredths so you can just drop the decimal points just for purposes of graphing them accurately.
can you look at the attached plot chart and let me know if i am in the right direction? thank you..
That looks like you are on the right track. I don't know if you can or not, but could you stretch the x axis out more so the numbers could be further apart?
i believe it i just make the layout larger. At this point i do not know how to find the "equation of best fit"..
Draw the line of best fit, find a couple points on it, calculate the slope, use the point and the slope to write the equation.
does it matter what points I pick?
They should be on the line of best fit you have drawn. Try to pick points that make your life easy.
