factor 15u^2-19u-10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(15u+5)(u-2)?

myininaya (myininaya):

-30u+5u does not equal -19u

myininaya (myininaya):

\[a \cdot c =15(-10)=30(-5)=25(-6)=-25(6) ; b=-25+6=> bx=-25x+6x\]

myininaya (myininaya):

so we will use factor by grouping

myininaya (myininaya):

\[15u^2-25u+6u-10\] by the way i meant u above not x lol

myininaya (myininaya):

the first two terms have 5u in common so we can do \[5u(3u-5)+6u-10\] the last two terms have 2 in common so we have \[5u(3u-5)+2(3u-5)\]

myininaya (myininaya):

now we have two terms and they both have (3u-5) in common so we can factor out (3u-5) leaving behind the 5u +2

myininaya (myininaya):

\[(3u-5)(5u+2)\]

myininaya (myininaya):

So in the beginning what I did was found two factors of a*c that have product a*c and sum b.
