what are the vertical line test is and how it is used

Vertical line is a test used to determine whether a curve is a function or not. Plot the curve , then draw a line parallel to y axis i.e a vertical line. If the line cuts the curve only once, the curve representsa function, if it cuts more than once, then it's not a function.

sorry i missed one point, the vertical line is moved from end to end ,and it should cut the curve only once, for the curve to be a function
