They are both called cell division the main differences meiosis is called a reducing division because it reduces a diploid to haploid. there are 2 rounds in meiosis, M1 and M2 and one one replication. meiosis helps organisms like human remain diploid. once meiosis is complete you have 4 haploid daughter cells in which each one of them is distinct from the parent cell. only sexual organisms undergo meiosis. meiosis is use to reproduction. gametes are the online cells in human that undergo meiosis;hence the reason why gametes are haploid. mitosis on the other hand is the cell division by which it create 2 identical cells. all somatic cell undergo mitosis. mitosis can be used to create new cells especially your skin cells which are renewed very often as well as abrasion. 5 stages to mitosis. mitosis involves just one round and one replication.
