OpenStudy (vanz):

when would you use factoring in real life?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Factoring is required for solving quadratic , cubic equations which have direct application in real life problems like trajectory of a parabola, to find maxima and minima of a function and so on.

OpenStudy (vanz):

No I mean like "You would quadratics to see how far away a house is"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have 1001 M&Ms to share among 12 friends (plus yourself). Can you divide them evenly? Factoring 1001 = 7*11*13 would allow you to immediately see that you can. Just the first example that popped into my head :)

OpenStudy (ash2326):

yeah, if used along with trigonometry, it can be used to find the distance of a house or its height .

OpenStudy (vanz):

all I need is onneee more!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just try to think of some other instance where you might need to divide something and thus it would behoove you to know whether one number contains the other as a factor.

OpenStudy (vanz):

Oh wait I mean factoring quadratics, how would you use that in real life, sorry hehe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really can't see how we use factoring in real life......
