Linear Algebra Q: In RREF form 1 0 1 5 0 1 0 -1 0 0 0 0 so x+z=5 and y=-1....is z a free variable? how would i write up the soln to this matrix?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what was wrong with the other solution?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since the last row is all zeros, there is an infinite number of solutions; 0 always = 0

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes, the 3rd variable is free so you would have an homogenous part and a particular part

OpenStudy (amistre64):

z<-1,0,1> + <5,-1,0> would be parametric solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, would z=t and then x=5-t? than kyou for ur response....if u posted previous respnses,....i did n't see them. apologies

OpenStudy (amistre64):

thats one way to write it up yes :)

much appreciated
