If you were to use the substitution method to solve the following system, choose the new system of equations that would result if x was isolated in the second equation. 3x + y + 2z = 1 x + 2y – z = –8 3x – y – 3z = 18

I dont understand what I am supposed to do? Do I use the substitution method? Do I isolate the second equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I am just supposed to isolate x?

hero (hero):

Yup

Thank You!

hero (hero):

Well, actually, that's the first step. You still have to substitute the expression for x into the other equations to get the "new" systems of equations.
