Grammar help. Be careful, the oil in the pan is hot. is that comma really necessary?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd almost consider breaking that into 2 sentences. You need a pause after the "Be careful" but the comma looks awkward. Can you change into 2 sentences?

Be careful! The oil in the pan is hot. or Be careful. The oil in the pan is hot. They are correct, and I don't think comma is right. ;-)
