Alright one more.. The speed of light is 1.86 x 10^5 miles per second. If the average distance between the Earth and the Sun is 1.5 x 10^8 kilometers, how many minutes will it take a beam of light to reach the Earth from the Sun? Round to the hundredth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Velocity is defined as\[v = {\rm distance \over time}\]We know velocity and distance, therefore, \[t = {d \over v}\]

Don't have to change the km to fit the miles or anything?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. you do :). good job. si gives distance in km. change it to km/s and then divide. Remember to covert from seconds to min afterwards or you will have the answer*60.

Alright thanks both of you(:
