2(x + 5) > 8x – 8 Please explain to me by step by step! :) thank u bunches!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distribute 2 to x and 5 so it 2x+10 > 8x-8 and thats all ik

OpenStudy (radar):

and proceed as in any normal algebra. 2x+10 > 8x-8 sub tract 8x from both sides getting 2x-8x+10>8x-8x-8 or -6x+10>-8 Now subtract 10 from both sides getting: -6x>-18 Now this is where the rules is a little different, when you multiply or divide an unequality by a negative number you reverse the sense of the inequality sign. < becomes > and > becomes <. We are going to divide both sides by a -6. We then get: x<3 which is our answer.
