amu12, here is an easy way to think of percentage questions and fractions. Whenever you see the word "of" think of multiplication. So, 50% of 100 is, 50% * 100, which is 50.
So, to answer your question, 120% of ? = 81 is written as 120% * ? = 81
we can also write it as 120/100 * ? = 81
Now, let's simplify it, 1.2 * ? = 81
In algebra to find an answer, we have to isolate the unknown right? So we have to isolate the question mark... how do we do that? We do that by moving 1.2 to the other side.
We end up with ? = 81/2.1
so, we do some easy division, and we find the answer is 67.5
