y = 4, x = 2

Solve by using the elimination method. x + 2y = 10 -2(x + y) = -2(6) -2x - 2y = -12 now we have x + 2y = 10 -2x - 2y = -12 Now eliminate 2y and add 10 and -12 and we have -x = -2 -x/-x = -2/-x x = 2 Now we know x = 2, plug 2 for x in the equation x + 2y = 10 and solve for y x + 2y = 10 2 + 2y = 10 2y = 10 - 2 2y = 8 2y/2 = 8/2 y = 4 The solution is (2,4) x = 2 and y = 4
