what is the reason for plasma to be highly energetic??

OpenStudy (panther):

Plasma is by definition ionized gas. For a gas to be ionized it must be in a higher energy state

OpenStudy (shayaan_mustafa):

Do you know what is ion? Of course you know. And also you know how an atom become an ion. When an atom absorbs high energy then its electrons jump to the higher energy level, or if energy is so much then they goes to the valance band and become free electrons. Hence, ions are formed. Therefore ions are much energetic than a neutral atoms. Plasma is an ionized gas. Now you can estimate this statement that why it is so or highly energetic. Regards, Electronics Engineer.

I think you mean conduction band, not valence band, and band theory applies to solids, not gases.

OpenStudy (shayaan_mustafa):

yes yes conduction band. and I just gave example here for ion to be highly energetic although I know band theory applies to solids. During the course of electronics engineering. approx. 18 months we spend on solid state physics. Thanks for correction. Regards, Electronics Engineer.
