I don't know how to solve for 'x' because the 'y' variables are confusing me

simple. first make the coefficients of y or x equal. Let's make y's coefficients equal. to do this multiply the 1st equation by 11 nd the 2nd by 2. then add both equations. then u will b able to eliminate y.
