Natural causes: dirt slipping, lahars, avalanches, vulcano eruptions etc. Anthropogenic causes: overgrazing

Succession can also be a natural process that happens without any disasters... just the result of changes in the number and type of species present, like shifting gears in a car... the car doesn't have to crash to shift gears, it just reaches a point that the conditions are right internally, and you shift up.
